Roderick Angle Bio / Kenyon Phillips
Born in Lawrence, Kansas in 1970, Roderick Angle became enamored of music at an early age. Finding creative expression in the drums, he began playing seriously in his teens. After moving to New Jersey in 1990 to attend Rutgers University and play drums in an experimental punk band called Transilvia, Angle discovered photography. It was at this defining moment that Roderick's passion for music took a back seat to his passion for the camera.

He moved to New York to attend the School of Visual Arts, graduating with honors in 1994. Longterm apprenticeships followed with Guzman and David LaChappelle, whom Angle considers a primary influence and mentor. Along the way, he developed a style that was equal parts rock n' roll, film noir and surrealist. After striking out on his own in the late 1990s, Roderick landed print campaigns for Pepe Jeans, Target, and Sony Electronics. He also began shooting fashion editorials and covers for Raygun, Spin, Surface, Details, Black Book and Time Out New York.

Advertising work for avant-garde interior design and branding firm The Apartment led to a relationship that culminated in Roderick's first solo exhibition. Held at The Apartment's Soho headquarters in the fall of 2004, "The Legend of White Buffalo Woman and Other Stories" was an acclaimed exploration of mythological themes through a postmodern, cinematic lens.

In 2006 Angle assumed the role of Creative Director at Vis Vitae, a full-service digital photography and retouching studio in New York's Flatiron district specializing in high-end fashion and commercial imaging. During his tenure at Vis Vitae, Roderick has developed a unique business model that provides clients with a "one stop shop" for everything from concept and pre-production to full studio services and pre-press. Acting as agency, photographer and post-house combined, Roderick Angle and Vis Vitae provide editorial and print advertising that is flawless, original and on-target.
